English-Arabic Simultaneous Interpreting for the UN Conference - Dialogue on Tax for SDGs

This past week, I had the privilege to serve as an English-Arabic simultaneous interpreter alongside my colleague Sharaf Alhourani for the UN Conference - 2023 Dialogue on Tax and the Sustainable Development Goals, held in New York at Columbia University from November 14-15.

The Tax for Sustainable Development Goals Initiative, or Tax for SDGs, supports developing countries in increasing domestic resource mobilization (DRM) and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the Initiative, taxation is considered both a tool for revenue collection and a policy instrument to encourage sustainable growth strategies and influence behaviour towards desired outcomes related to climate, nature, well-being, and governance. 

During the Conference, the Dialogue delved deeper into the strategic role of tax policies and administration in building fairer societies supported by efficient, just and robust tax systems. It tackled pressing issues such as climate financing, privatization of tax administration, inter-generational debt impacts, and harnessing tax measures for SDG financing. The Dialogue also spotlighted the transformative power of taxation in economic and social spheres, underscored the necessity for transparency and accountability, and discussed the crucial role of media in garnering political support for SDG-oriented taxation.

English-Arabic Simultaneous Interpreting for the UN Conference - 15 Years, One Vision: Knowledge for Tomorrow

On Monday, September 25, 2023, I had the privilege to serve as an English-Arabic interpreter alongside my colleague Sharaf Alhourani for the UN Conference - 15 Years, One Vision: Knowledge for Tomorrow, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

During this conference, we witnessed the launch of the Regional Skills Initiative, an innovative pilot program led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF). This initiative has a compelling goal: to upskill and reskill citizens across the Arab region, addressing the challenges posed by interconnected crises.

English-Arabic Simultaneous Interpreting for the Safeguarding Electoral Integrity in the Digital Age Conference

I served as the sole English-Arabic simultaneous interpreter and translator for the conference delegates from Arab countries.

The conference was organized by the Electoral Commission of South Africa in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in South Africa, under the theme 'Safeguarding Electoral Integrity in the Digital Age: Strategies for Combating Digital Disinformation, an African Conference.'

The conference took place from March 2 to 5, 2020, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CCICC) and was attended by nearly 200 delegates, including senior representatives from over 30 election management bodies (EMBs) across Africa, as well as election professionals and digital media experts from around the world, including representatives from major social media platforms.
